Summary: The Brazilian Embassy in collaboration with the office of Information and Public Relations, American University of Beirut invite you to join ?A Brazilian Workshop hosted by Capoeira Soberviventes, Batizado 2008. October 23rd -28th 2008. Capoeira is a dynamic art form from Brazil developed by African slaves during the colonial times; it was used as a means of liberation and self-determination. Come join us to learn this fascinating martial art-dance that has spread across the world and is now in Lebanon. Brazilian art forms and festivities open to all public with mestres (highest ranking instructors in capoeira) from Brazil! The Batizado is an important initiation ceremony with the graduation of the students by the mestre. There will be workshops in Capoeira Maculele (stick dance), Afro Brazilian music and dance, Samba de Roda.
General: Mestre Amen Santo who teaches at the Capoeira Batuque Academy in Southern California and Mestre Calango from Brazil are both considered gurus in Capoeira at West Hall on October 23 at 10:30 am and Capoeira workshops at the Hostler Center until October 28. Registration: AUB students must register at the visitor?s Bureau (Main Gate AUB) from 9am-5pm. Deadline for registration October 22nd.
